Ruisrock

Ruisrock is one of the oldest and leading cultural events in Finland. The magical music festival takes place 5–7 of July 2024 in the beautiful national park of Ruissalo in Turku, Finland.

Ruisrock is one of the oldest and leading cultural events in Finland. Over the weekend, Ruisrock takes its visitors on a journey to another world full of joy, friendship, and freedom. In addition to the diverse programme, the festival lays on an array of high-quality food and drink services.

Ruisrock exists to make the world a happier and more joyful place.

Ruisrock exists so that there would be more joy and happiness in the world. We should look out for one another and do our bit for the greater common good so that everyone can spend the greatest weekend of the summer in an environment where they feel safe and respected.

Ruisrock’s values are equality, responsibility and creativity.

Ruisrock doesn’t tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind. In case you witness or encounter inappropriate behavior, please contact any of the security or other festival staff.

At Ruisrock:

  • Everyone is treated equally regardless of e.g. skin color, age, gender, or sexual orientation.
  • Physical integrity is respected.
  • Everyone looks after each other.
  • Let’s enjoy a happy festival together where everyone feels comfortable!

Our responsibilities:

  • Organize a helping info team to patrol the area and guide anyone in need of help.
  • Provide a space near the first aid tent of the festival where you can find someone to talk to and a peaceful place to take a breather, if you need one.
  • Arrange toilet facilities for women, men, and non-binary individuals.
  • Provide special services for physically disabled visitors. More information about our accessibility services can be found under accessibility.
  • Create an atmosphere where everyone feels safe.

We are also involved in the Keychange initiative, by which we are committed to increasing the proportion of women and non-binary performers to at least 50% in the festival programme. We achieved our goal in 2019 and will continue to work to provide an increasingly diverse festival programme.

Your responsibilities:

  • Look out for your friends and fellow festival goers – dare to care!
  • Interfere with any inappropriate behavior that you come across. If it’s difficult to step in, you can always contact the nearest security steward or other festival staff.
  • Always ask for permission before touching someone!
  • Respect different people and cultures.
  • Behave according to good manners (and urge your friends to do the same).

Everyone has the right to enjoy the festival safely – make sure that you promote overall safety with your own actions.

Ruisrock’s values encompass both social and ecological responsibility.

Ruisrock is a festival for all ages, and we want to take all visitors into consideration. Throughout its history, the festival has been held on the scenic island of Ruissalo, which is a nature reserve for the most part. The green venue is an important part of Ruisrock’s uniqueness, which is why it is especially important for us to consider the nature surrounding the event and work to maintain its diversity.

Here are some of the ways in which we ensure social responsibility:

  • We take different visitors into account when organizing the festival by offering different ways of participating and influencing Ruisrock.
  • Ruisrock’s guiding principle is that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in the festival with as much accessibility as possible. We work with experts by experience to improve accessibility.
  • We offer free admission to visitors over the age of 70 on any festival day of their choosing.
  • We include our visitors in the festival through the Ruisrock Jury, for example. The jury members participate in the development of the festival throughout the year.

Here are some of the ways in which we ensure ecological responsibility:

  • We make sure that the waste generated at the festival is recycled and that a minimum of natural resources is used. We are part of the EcoCompass system, which helps us to protect the environment and combat climate change.
  • We cooperate with the Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association (Pidä Saaristo Siistinä ry). Bottles and cans are recycled, and the proceeds from deposits are used to finance the association’s activities that benefit the cleanliness and waste management of water systems. So please take your bottles and cans to the appropriate containers or to the PSS volunteers! We are also involved in organizing the Clean Beach events, which are open to anyone who wishes to participate in cleaning the Ruissalo Kansanpuisto.
  • Every year, we develop practices that reduce the festival’s carbon footprint. We primarily use products and services that have been awarded the eco-label, and we also encourage our food vendors to make more sustainable choices by offering more affordable points of sale to vendors who serve only vegetarian and vegan options.
  • We use renewable energy to produce the festival, including biodiesel made from food waste as well as wind energy.

Ruisrock is a creative organization — a forerunner and renewer of the Finnish festival scene. We create Finnish music culture and bring out new, surprising perspectives.

At the heart of Ruisrock is creative content from music to art, food and everything else. We develop our operations every year as we learn new things and receive feedback. For three days, we will bring the world to Ruissalo, and we will create unique, unforgettable and current experiences for our community.

Ruisrock exists to bring more joy and happiness to the world.

Ruisrock is a forward-looking festival that systematically pursues ecological, social and cultural sustainability. We boldly try to address problems in society, and our ambitious goal is to reduce our environmental impact.

The Ruisrock Sustainability Program, set for the years 2022–2025, is based on the goals of UN’s Global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, known as Agenda2030

The Sustainability Program contains concrete intermediate goals, metrics and methods that Ruisrock is using to reach its goal of being a sustainable festival. The program covers the areas of ecological, social & cultural and economic sustainability, and it is incorporated into the work of everyone working at the festival.

The Ecological Sustainability Program guides Ruisrock on its journey to become more environmentally friendly, which means more sustainable consumption and use of energy, for example.

The festival sets goals related to environmental protection, climate change and ecological actions and monitors their achievement using the EcoCompass environmental management system. Ruisrock sets concrete annual metrics and goals to lead the festival toward ecological sustainability.

Among other things, Ruisrock is committed to developing recycling and increasing the degree of waste utilization, to using only wind power and compensating its carbon footprint only through causes located in Finland.

The goal of the Social Sustainability Program is to promote equity and solidarity together with all the participants of the festival. Socially and culturally sustainable development means accepting diversity and valuing and respecting everyone’s rights.

Ruisrock aims to be an inclusive festival that accommodates people with diverse backgrounds, portrays them as an important part of the festival and includes them in producing the event. Everyone is welcome at Ruisrock, and the goal is to create a festival culture where everyone feels comfortable.

We monitor our activities with the help of our Equality Plan and set goals to promote equality and equity, increase diversity and foster a sense of community.

The sufficiency of natural resources and preserving the living environment are matters of concern for every business. That is why the pursuit of economic sustainability guides Ruisrock in making decisions that ensure financially sound operations so that the festival can also allocate resources to minimize its environmental impact and to use natural resources as sustainably as possible.

Ruisrock complies with all the laws and regulations governing business operations and event production. The festival is committed to providing a safe working environment for all its employees.

Ruisrock is a festival of joy and happiness, celebrated according to the safer space principles while showing respect for other people and the environment.

We all share the responsibility for creating a positive atmosphere at Ruisrock; this includes the festival organizers, the stakeholders and the festival audience. Together, we can create an inclusive festival where everyone feels safe and can be themselves – there is no room for racism, discrimination or harassment at Ruisrock.

Ruisrock immediately addresses any incidents of harassment that are reported to the organizer. Violating the festival etiquette may be grounds for being removed from the festival.

Thank you for following the festival etiquette and building a safe event with us. Together, we can create a Ruisrock where everyone feels comfortable!

The Ruisrock Jury, founded by Ruisrock, takes part in developing the festival throughout the year. The jury will meet with the festival team around joint workshops to develop and brainstorm different aspects of Ruisrock.

It is of paramount importance for Ruisrock to organize an event inspired by its audience and to give the visitors a voice in the planning of the festival. The Ruisrock Jury brings fresh perspectives from young visitors to the festival production and helps the festival team to anticipate future trends.

The topics for development that we will discuss with the jury will be decided together, and we hope that the jury members themselves will bring their development proposals to the table. The discussions may result in, for example, new services or activities at the festival.

Every year, we look for a diverse group of 16–24-year-olds from all over Finland to take part in the Ruisrock Jury, and there is no need to have previous Ruisrock knowledge. Jury members will receive a fee for participating in the workshops. The best ideas will be implemented at the festival, and jury members can also get involved in the implementation phase. In the summer, the Ruisrock Jury members will take part in Ruisrock.

The current Ruisrock Jury is formed by:

Linnea Anderson, Amanda Eränne, Vanessa Gonzalez, Otto Hamido, Leevi Harmaala, Julia Hård, Minea Jäntti, Tuuli Koppanen, Jeru Kuusisto, Nea Lehto, Jamal Metsälampi, Eveliina Määttä, Liinu Nieminen, Veikko Peräkorpi, Angelika Provalskaja, Simo Rokkonen, Aino Saarinen

The search for new Ruisrock Jury members will be announced on our social media channels.
