Formed by Tytti Roto and Ville Valavuo, MODEM is a band that creates sensually dystopian Finnish-language synth-pop.
The duo’s independent recording and release project got started when a passion for Italo horror films and the catalogue of Minimal Wave Records came together in a musical experiment inspired by drum machines and analogue synthesizers.
The first official MODEM release, “Elokuvia / Autofiktio” 12” single, came out in spring 2022, accompanied by a music video directed by Ilona Lehtonen. The band’s debut album is coming out in April 2024, and the first single off the album, “Kamera”, was released in the beginning of February 2024.
