The organizers of Ruisrock have closely monitored the development of the COVID-19 situation and remained hopeful that Ruisrock could once again spread joy and happiness to its more than one hundred thousand visitors this July. However, the prolonged pandemic has caused great uncertainty and left many questions open when it comes to organizing large festivals. The production of Ruisrock cannot continue without absolute certainty that the conditions for arranging it can be met.
The COVID-19 pandemic therefore forces Ruisrock to now make a difficult decision, but one that is the only one possible in these circumstances. The festival of summer 2021 will be cancelled and the next Ruisrock will be held in July 2022.
Ruisrock has to be a safe festival that provides phenomenal experiences for each and every participant. At the heart of the festival are the encounters between people and their shared moments of joy and happiness, which the visitors have long been yearning for. It is a top priority for Ruisrock to be able to meet the audience’s expectations, but this would simply not be possible due to the restrictions, for example related to free movement in the festival area and the number of festivalgoers.
“Our biggest wish over this past year has been to be able to organize Ruisrock again. The yearning of the audience, the performers, and all of us to attend the festival is painfully clear, and we have done everything in our power to put together a celebration in Ruissalo after a tough year. For over 50 years, Ruisrock has brought people together to share memorable experiences. The current uncertain situation, however, does not make this possible, so it is with broken hearts that we have to cancel this summer’s festival. We will now focus all our efforts on the year 2022, and the planning has already started. Thank you once more to all those who were planning to come to Ruisrock. We will see in you in a little over a year from now in Ruissalo and celebrate to our heart’s content to make up for these two lost years!” says Ruisrock Promoter Mikko Niemelä.
Negotiations with artists for Ruisrock 2022 have begun, and artist announcements will follow as the negotiations progress. The festival will be held from 8–10 July 2022 in Ruissalo, Turku.
If you have purchased a ticket for this summer’s Ruisrock, you can keep the ticket and use it as is at the 2022 festival. Tickets saved from 2020 are also valid as they are for Ruisrock in 2022.
