The 50th Ruisrock will be held on 5–7 July 2019 in Ruissalo, Turku, and over the weekend, the stage will be taken by e.g. Travis Scott,Ellie Goulding, Bad Bunny, Empire of The Sun, Alma, and Apulanta. The musical line-up of the festival is also reinforced by Texan rapper Megan Thee Stallion, who shatters glass ceilings, in addition to the rhythm music collective Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana, which will be holding its last concerts this summer.
The festival area will also feature a topical art program that caresses the mind and raises awareness about nature issues.A wide range of art forms is represented, from the visual arts to immersive performance and participatory sound art. Artist Emma Ainala’s work, which combines rococo style ideals with a modern flood of images, is given a new life in the festival area in a piece entitled The Garden of Earthly Delights, while the sculpture named Keidas – Oasis by the Halmesmaa x 3 collective, known for its striking spatial installations, provides a rejuvenating resting place immediately as you enter the area. Kaikuja Paratiisista (Echoes from Paradise) by Teatteri Vapaa Vyöhyke invites the most curious minds to enjoy a performance that lasts for one drink.
Festival visitors can also spot Roskakala (Trash Fish), which raises awareness about the present-day reality of waterways; the Armadillo, a reminder about the importance of biodiversity; and a giant flamingo, each telling its own story about the relationship of humans and nature. The super popular Plant Jam Sessions of Fern Orchestra invite the audience to jam casually with plants, and the Rave Container, already a classic part of the program, hosts micro-sized, brief raves in a glass-walled container. Pink Box mixes new music with spoken program and other participatory activities over the course of the weekend and is a piece of art in itself, both inside and out.
