Ruisrock is celebrating its anniversary by looking ahead, which is also reflected in the program. The festival will be organized on 5–7 July 2019 at Ruissalo in Turku.
Ruisrock will celebrate its anniversary in the summer with much-anticipated Finnish and international artists. The multiple-platinum-selling artist-producer Travis Scott will be coming to Ruissalo following the huge popularity of his third studio album ASTROWORLD. After collecting just under 350 million plays worldwide in its first week, the album went straight to the top of the Billboard 200 chart. One of the most interesting artists today is the Danish MØ whose distinctive sound echoes with electronic beats and pop hooks.
The festival also features rapper, singer and songwriter Future, whose charted albums, platinum-selling singles, and guest appearances on the hits of numerous other artists have established him as one of the key influencers in the industry. Hip hop collective Brockhampton, on the other hand, has redefined what it means to be a boy band. Blending traditional rap with a more alternative approach, the band is known not only for its strong visual expression, but also its boundary-breaking lyrics.
One of the most anticipated bands at the festival is The 1975 from the UK, which combines electronic influences and bold melodies in its music. Released in November, the album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships is the first of a set of two albums, with the second to be released next year. Another Nordic reinforcement at Ruisrock is Norwegian pop artist Sigrid. The musician has sold out gigs around the world and won the renowned BBC Sound of 2018 vote, listing the most promising new artists in the world.
Finnish audience favorites at the festival include Anna Puu, Apulanta, Pauliina Kokkonen, SANNI, Vesala, Ville Valo & Agents, Younghearted, the great 2010s Finnish punk orchestra Pää Kii, and the rap spectacle D.R.E.A.M.G.I.R.L.S., starring a group of contemporary Finnish musicians from SOFA to Yeboyah.
Ruisrock will be held for the 50th time in the summer. The anniversary year will be kicked off with the winter festival Ruishelmi, held on 8–9 February in Logomo, Turku.
“Planning the anniversary year has been super exciting! We plan to take our visitors on a fantastic journey into another world, which can only be experienced at Ruisrock. We strongly look toward the future, which can be seen in everything we do. Our performers feature some of the most popular, trending artists of the day, promising newcomers, and timeless classics, together creating a Ruisrock experience like no other,” says Ruisrock Promoter Mikko Niemelä.
More festival news and program reveals will be announced later in the winter.
