At Ruisrock we do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind and we respect everyone’s right to bodily integrity and a safe festival environment. Ruisrock encourages low threshold reporting of harassment and the festival is committed to addressing incidents immediately.

What is discrimination?

Discrimination is when a person is treated less favourably than others because of a personal characteristic. Discrimination can be based on gender, gender identity, cultural or ethnic background, religion, disability, sexual orientation, age, nationality, origin, language and appearance, among other characteristics. Harassment, sexual harassment and incitement to discrimination are also forms of discrimination.

What is harassment?

Harassment can take many forms, and anyone can be a victim of harassment or inappropriate treatment. Harassment is conduct that violates a person’s dignity and is linked to one or more of the causes for discrimination. Creating an intimidating, hostile or humiliating environment is also harassment.

What is sexual harassment?

Sexual harassment is intentional, unwanted and one-sided sexually suggestive behaviour, such as physical touching, assessing looks or sexually suggestive language that the target finds unpleasant. The target of the harassment determines whether the behaviour is offensive or abusive. If the other party has not given their consent to touching or interacting, it is sexual harassment.

Ruisrock is a festival of joy and happiness, celebrated according to the safer space principles while showing respect for other people and the environment.

We all share the responsibility for creating a positive atmosphere at Ruisrock; this includes the festival organizers, the stakeholders and the festival audience. Together, we can create an inclusive festival where everyone feels safe and can be themselves – there is no room for racism, discrimination or harassment at Ruisrock.

Take care

Take care of yourself and others – dare to care!

Respect others

Respect different people and cultures. No inappropriate behaviour, harassment or discrimination of any kind will be tolerated at Ruisrock.

Offer help

Help those in need and address inappropriate behaviour. If you find it difficult to intervene, you should contact the nearest security steward or other festival staff.

Remember consent

Remember mutual consent in all interactions. Ask for permission to touch.

Celebrate responsibly

Take care of your friends, enjoy the festival with respect for others, remember to drink water and know your limits.

Protect nature

Respect the nature of Ruissalo: place your rubbish in the bin and use the toilet.

Let everyone celebrate in peace

Everyone has the right to enjoy the festival safely and as themselves – please contribute to public safety and encourage your friends to do the same.

Ruisrock immediately addresses any incidents of harassment that are reported to the organizer. Violating the festival etiquette may be grounds for being removed from the festival.

Thank you for following the festival etiquette and building a safe event with us. Together, we can create a Ruisrock where everyone feels comfortable!

It is of utmost importance to Ruisrock to allow a comfortable and safe environment for our visitors to enjoy the festival.

There are several hundred security stewards taking care of the safety of Ruisrock visitors, as well as plenty of police and rescue authorities on site during the festival. The safety operations also extend outside the festival site, to routes leading to the festival site located on Ruissalo island.

As a Ruisrock visitor, you can contribute to keeping the festival safe and comfortable by arriving with a good mood and taking care of yourself and other festivalgoers. If anything worries you during the festival, or you see or experience something suspicious, you can always turn to any staff member for help.

Ruisrock’s principle is to provide a way for everyone to participate in the festival by making it as accessible as possible. We want everyone to be able to enjoy Ruisrock!

An assistant or interpreter may take part in the festival for free together with a paying person that they are assisting. The assistant or interpreter does not need a separate ticket, but they can enter the festival grounds with the person they are assisting. Assistants can be switched at the accessible entrance in the presence of the person who is being assisted.

Ruisrock is a Disability Card event. A person who needs individual support can indicate their need for an assistant with an EU Disability Card, an A symbol or a Visual Impairment Card. We do not require a separate card or proof of disability, but showing proof can make your festival experience smoother if your disability is non-visible.

Festival grounds

Ruisrock is held in the Kansanpuisto Park in Ruissalo, Turku, and the festival grounds mostly consist of parkland or fields. Some of the terrain is uneven, but an asphalt or gravel path runs around almost the entire festival area.

The accessible entrance is located about 400 meters from the accessible parking area. The route to the accessible entrance consists of asphalt and hardpack gravel.

An asphalt road runs from the accessible entrance down to the seashore. On the shore, the asphalt road turns into a hard, sandy path. The distance from the accessible entrance to the shore is c. 500 m. There is also a beach on the festival grounds, which is soft sand. The weather affects the terrain.

Elevated vieving platforms

There are elevated viewing platforms near the biggest stages. The viewing platforms are elevated 60 cm from the ground and have a gently sloping ramp. Assistants and other people accompanying the assisted person may also go up on the platform, if there’s enough room. If the platform gets crowded, please give room to those who truly need it.

Accessible toilets

Accessible toilets can be found throughout the festival grounds. There are accessible toilets near the elevated viewing platforms, in the toilet areas of the audience areas and in the bar areas. Holders of a Toilet Card may also use the accessible toilets. Read more about the Toilet Card

Accessible map

Accessible routes and services can be found on the accessible map, which will be published closer to the event.

Accessibility barriers

Ruisrock is not a fully accessible festival:

  • There are a lot of people at the event, so you will have to wait in line from time to time.
  • Leaving the area during the busy hours of the night involves some accessibility issues.
  • The weather affects the terrain. If it rains, the grounds can be muddy and there may be puddles.
  • Bringing guide dogs onto the festival grounds is not recommended.
  • We do our best to facilitate many forms of participation at the event, but we cannot guarantee individualized accessibility services for everyone.

Ruisrock aims to improve its accessibility year by year. We are committed to ten accessibility promises that we are constantly working on.

Our accessibility promises

  • All our big stages have accessible viewing platforms.
  • The festival grounds are well-lit.
  • There are several disabled toilets in the festival grounds.
  • The festival has an accessible parking area and a clear entrance procedure so that we can improve everyone’s opportunities to get to the festival.
  • There are places to rest in the festival grounds.
  • There are general assistants at the festival who help festivalgoers with accessibility issues in particular.
  • Ruisrock also has a plain language version of its website, which improves the accessibility of our communication.
  • We train our staff to be even more aware of accessibility.
  • We communicate even more effectively and informatively about the accessible practices at the festival.
  • We promise to take accessibility into account at Ruisrock also in the years to come.

Work on behalf of accessibility requires a long-term commitment, and one of our priorities as the organizers of Ruisrock is to keep on improving it. If you have any feedback or suggestions for improvement concerning the accessibility of Ruisrock, please contact saavutettavuus@ruisrock.fi.
